Storyboard

The simplest meaning of this huge term could be telling a story on a board with characters, i.e, “Story on a board”. If we duck down our heads deeply into this, it is a vast department of the Animation industry. Now for a normal person like you and me, will have no idea if someone says he/she is a storyboard artist. But when given a reference to cartoons and said that we make them, you get a nod from the other person, still being unaware of what exactly we do. And hence this article is here to explain to you all what exactly is Storyboard.

When a beautiful story is written, it’s not written to stay, it is written to move and reach people around the world. And for that, it has to be creatively depicted to the audience such that the story and the picture makes a mark in their minds. So to bring this into action, we Storyboard Artists step down in the field. As it is said that people remember more of what is seen and heard than what’s written, we try to show them simple things in a better and unique way. We sketch down these stories into scenes with pictures that are visually great to watch and enjoy. We draw the characters, play with them, put acting and expressions into them and bring those dummy characters to life, which tell you the stories. We study characters, may it be a baby crawling or a warrior fighting or jungle animals and so on. The final movie that you see in theatres, on televisions, and on other screens, is actually completely hand-drawn by the artists in the storyboarding stage. Storyboards are like blueprints to further departments like animation, rigging modelling and others, which work on the scenes that are directed by us. The artists here think from so many points of view, as we target quite a wide group audience. Depicting a story right from a child to the aged one is quite challenging. Because I believe both generations are quite a fan of stories. If you remember, most of us have seen cartoons and heard stories from our grandparents. Stories are being depicted for ages on stones, papers, and now digitally. So to put it in simple words I think storyboard artists are the storytellers of this digital world.
